Peru introduces a COVID-19 vaccination leave

The Peruvian government recently passed Law 31334 enabling employees to take up to four hours of paid leave to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus during their working hours.

The new law entered into effect on 7 August 2021.

Key details

As the vaccination campaign accelerates, the Peruvian government introduced a law granting four hours of leave to receive a COVID-19 vaccination (in addition to all other leaves available to the employee) to encourage as many people as possible to be vaccinated.

The short vaccination leave applies to all employers and all employees for each required injection until employees are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

Employees are required to notify their employer (the Human Resource department or other relevant person or department) of their intention to utilize the leave at least 48 hours before their scheduled vaccination day. If there is an exceptional situation where the vaccination center is not operating, the paid leave may be requested again 48 hours before the rescheduled vaccination appointment.
