Lockton Unveils Vision for World-Class Global Headquarters in Leawood

Lockton, the world’s largest privately held, independent insurance brokerage, today announced plans for a new, state-of-the-art global headquarters in Leawood, Kansas—a transformative move that supports the firm’s next chapter of growth and reinforces sustained investment in its Associates, clients, and the community.

“As we look to the future, our growth is not slowing down,” said Ron Lockton, Chairman and CEO of Lockton. “To keep pace, we need a headquarters that supports our current growth and our plans for the future. One that meets all our needs – in a premier work environment that enables us to service our clients, develop and attract great talent, and support our Associates in the best way possible.”

The company’s continued growth is a testament to the dedication of the firm’s Associates, whose relentless client focus has fueled expansion across the region and around the world. Lockton serves more than 65,000 clients and operates more than 150 offices across 43 countries, with recent expansion into Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and India.

A Regional Home Built for a Global Workforce

The new headquarters, scheduled to open in 2030, will be part of a new development at the northwest corner of State Line Road and College Boulevard, led by developer VanTrust Real Estate. The centerpiece of the 34-acre development will be Lockton’s 12-story, 444,000 square-foot office building, with future phased expansion in an additional eight-story, 258,000 square-feet building.

“Lockton has been an integral part of the fabric of the Kansas City business and civic community for many decades. This development is designed to support their continued presence and growth here,” said Dave Harrison, President of VanTrust Real Estate. “Our team is excited to work with Lockton to deliver a development that reflects their vision and culture,” said Harrison.

The development site aligns with Lockton’s vision of building a workplace that balances connectivity, culture, and convenience. With a vibrant atmosphere, state-of-the-art features, an accessible location, and proximity to dining and entertainment, the new headquarters will advance Lockton’s continued success in attracting and retaining top-tier talent from around the globe.

A Hometown Company Investing in the Community

Lockton has been a pillar of the Kansas City business community since 1966 when the firm’s founder, Jack Lockton, opened the first office in Westport. Since then, the headquarters office has moved five times—occupying offices on both sides of the state line—each time relocating to accommodate a growing workforce and the evolving needs of the business. In 2000, Lockton moved into its current headquarters on the Country Club Plaza, where today, the firm’s 1,500 local Associates occupy all 10 floors of the Valencia Place building and adjoining suite.

“We’ve proudly called the Plaza home for 25 of our nearly 60 years in Kansas City. It is a part of our story, and we've accomplished so much during our time there,” said Lockton. “We have confidence in the Plaza’s new ownership, and we believe the Plaza has a bright future ahead.”

Driving Regional Progress

The City of Leawood’s vision and collaboration was instrumental in bringing a world-class headquarters to the site, and the project is Leawood’s largest development project to date. In addition to Lockton’s offices, the site will feature a hotel, two multifamily residential buildings, a childcare center, and retail/restaurant space. The location, which offers easy access to Interstate 435 and other major thoroughfares, will feature integrated trail connections linking the new development to the park.

“This development represents more than bricks and mortar—it’s a continuation of a legacy,” said Marc Elkins, Mayor of Leawood. “The land for this site was once part of the homestead of the Hall family, a name synonymous with history and progress in Kansas City. This development brings together the Hall Family’s legacy, the Van Tuyl family’s vision, and the Lockton family’s leadership, creating a hub that will drive economic vitality and serve as a model for corporate and community collaboration.”

The project is expected to begin in 2026, with Lockton projected to move in early 2030.
