Lockton, the world's largest privately held insurance brokerage, is pleased to announce the appointments of Anita Farmer, Rob Cairo and Jana Byron to newly created positions as practice leaders within the firm’s U.S. Marine Practice. Farmer and Cairohave been named U.S. Cargo & Logistics Practice Leaders, and Byronhas been named U.S. Marine Risks & Liability Practice Leader. These appointments underscore the firm’s commitment to continuously deepening its marine expertise in order to best serve clients’ industry-specific needs.
Farmer and Cairo, who both joined Lockton in 2018, most recently were co-leaders of the Marine Practice for the firm’s Northeast region. Byron, who joined Lockton in 2020, most recently served as Marine Practice Leader in the firm’s Texas region. In their new roles, Farmer, Cairo and Byron will advance the firm’s service to clients across the U.S. by driving strategy across the enterprise, enhancing client service, making targeted investments to support growth, and expanding Lockton’s presence within the industry.

The U.S. Marine Practice is an important component of Lockton’s global strategy to provide comprehensive, market-leading service for marine clients across the world.

Since joining Lockton nearly a decade ago, Farmer led the expansion of Lockton’s marine business in its Northeast region. She has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance brokerage industry has been focused on cargo-related and specialty risks. She is adept at negotiating highly specialized, tailored insurance programs, and her areas of marine expertise include cargo, stock throughput, project cargo, supply chain, motor truck cargo and warehousemen’s legal liability.
Cairo’s 25 years of industry experience spans all marine lines of business, including cargo, stock throughput, marine liabilities, hull & machinery, and protection & indemnity. His background as an accomplished marine underwriter and a proven leader, coupled with his technical and business acumen, drives measurable and sustainable results for clients.
When Byron started at Lockton in 2020, she was the Exclusive U.S. Representative for P.L. Ferrari, which had been acquired by Lockton, in 2016. She has more than 27 years of experience in protection & indemnity (P&I), both as a maritime attorney representing P&I Clubs and handling complex P&I claims for two leading International Group P&I Clubs. Byron holds a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and she is a member of the Bars of the States of New York and Connecticut. She served as the chair of the Houston Marine & Energy Insurance Conference for three years and she is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
Farmer and Cairo are based in New York City. Byron is based in Houston, Texas.
