Effective 18 January 2019, the Employment (Amendment No. 3) Ordinance 2018, increased Hong Kong statutory paternity leave from three days to five days. The daily rate of statutory paternity leave pay (80 percent of the daily average wages of the employee), as well as all other aspects of the leave, remains the same. Employees who applied for paternity leave prior to the entry in force of the new law must give five days’ notice to their employers before they can take the additional two days.
