Lockton, the world’s largest independent brokerage firm, has begun a three-year partnership with Tate, a group of four galleries: Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. This new partnership will focus on three upcoming exhibitions at Tate Britain. From October 2023 it will also support an expanded community programme at Tate Britain.
A multiyear partnership championing demonstrable shared values of independence, community engagement, diversity and inclusion in support of Tate’s mission of access to art for all.
In October 2022, Tate and Lockton entered into a new multi-year partnership. This partnership is always-on, enabling meaningful engagement with the breadth of Tate’s programme at all four Tate galleries, yet anchored around incredible support of community programme at Tate Britain in addition to one Tate Britain exhibition annually.
Tate is a family of four art galleries: Tate Britain and Tate Modern in London, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives in Cornwall. Tate holds the national collection of British art, spanning 500 years, and of modern and contemporary international art that reaches across all continents. With over 70,000 artworks in the collection, Tate cares for and displays art which is free and open for all.
Lockton Supported Exhibitions
The first of Lockton’s supported exhibitions, Isaac Julien: What Freedom is to Me, showcased the compelling video artwork of award-winning British artist and filmmaker, Sir Isaac Julien. The first solo survey exhibition of Julien’s work in the UK, this landmark show presented many of the artist’s’ films from the 1980s to the present day, exploring themes such as the movement of people across different continents, times and spaces, Black British history, queer desire, and culture.
Now You See Us: Women Artists in Britain 1520-1920
The second year of Lockton’s partnership sees the support of Women Artists in Britain: 1520-1920. This essential and ground-breaking exhibition reveals the achievements of women in British art over our long history, enabling audiences to discover artists who forged a path for generations to come. Including over 150 works, the show will dismantle stereotypes surrounding women artists from medieval times right up until the First World War, revealing how they broke boundaries to establish what it meant to be a woman in the art world.

Lockton Supporting Communities at Tate Britain
Lockton also supports community programme at Tate Britain reflecting a commitment to supporting communities of all types. Through the partnership, Lockton’s support helps to enable a new Community and Partnerships Curator role at Tate Britain. This role will build close and nurturing relationships with communities hyperlocal to the gallery, enabling opportunities for people to encounter art in new ways.
Supporting Story Space
Lockton also supports the continuation of the Story Space community programme at Tate Britain. Story Space aims for everyone to see themselves reflected in the books they read, creating a welcome space for multigenerational audiences to read, imagine, play and create. The Story Space book collection celebrates books that centre children of colour, featuring books by black authors, indigenous authors and authors of colour from around the world. It also celebrates and centres books by authors with protected characteristics such as disability, sexual orientation and religion/ belief. Through storytelling, drawing and dressing up, Story Space is a place of diverse discovery for families, and is open and free for all. Lockton’s support of communities at Tate Britain is central to Tate’s always-on invitation for audience engagement with art and helps enable the gallery to remain open, accessible and inclusive for all.
