In the Philippines, GLOBOCAN 2022 reports 188,976 new cancer cases and 113,369 deaths in 2025 alone.
Nearly one in five Filipinos will develop cancer before the age of 75. These are not just numbers. They are colleagues, family members, and potentially employees in your organization. Among men, the three most common cancers are lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer, while for women, the leading types are breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer. In the Philippines, certain types of cancers like breast, cervical, and liver cancer are diagnosed at advanced stages due to a combination of factors: financial constraints, lack of early screening programs, lack of awareness and education, fear of stigma and discrimination, hesitancy and limited access to healthcare facilities.
This is where employers can step in.
Beyond wellness talks and lifestyle programs, critical illness coverage can make a tangible difference. It provides financial protection for employees diagnosed with serious conditions, such as cancer, covering medical costs, treatment, and recovery support. This allows employees to focus on their health rather than worrying about expenses, and helps companies maintain productivity and morale.
World Cancer Day is a reminder that we can save lives by supporting a healthier, more resilient workforce.
Beyond this, organizations can amplify their impact by promoting regular screenings, health education, and preventive initiatives. When employees know the signs, understand the risks, and have access to both benefits and professional care, the organization creates a proactive defense against cancer not just a reactive response.
