Lockton has supported MaiCoin Group’s Modernity Financial Technologies Co., Ltd. in completing a professional liability and crime insurance placement, marking an important step in the development of risk management standards for Taiwan’s virtual asset sector.
The insurance arrangement, developed with international markets and in collaboration with Fubon Insurance, provides coverage for financial risks arising from professional services as well as internal and external crime-related events. The placement makes Modernity Financial Technologies Co., Ltd. the first virtual asset service provider (VASP) in Taiwan to complete a dual insurance structure combining professional liability and crime insurance.
As virtual asset markets continue to mature, regulatory expectations around risk management, governance and user protection are becoming more clearly defined. In Europe, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, known as MiCA, has included professional indemnity insurance among the risk management requirements applicable to certain market participants. International exchanges and digital asset businesses are also increasingly adopting insurance mechanisms as part of their broader operational resilience frameworks.
For virtual asset service providers, professional liability insurance can help address liabilities arising from the delivery of professional services, while crime insurance can support risk transfer for certain internal misconduct and third-party crime events. Together, these solutions can form part of a broader risk management approach designed to strengthen financial resilience and enhance user confidence.
“Lockton has long supported major global exchanges, licensed custodians and financial institutions in developing digital asset risk management frameworks,” said Lawrence Li, General Manager, Lockton Taiwan. “Following an underwriting assessment covering internal controls, cybersecurity and operational processes, we are pleased to have helped Modernity Financial Technologies Co., Ltd. complete this professional liability and crime insurance arrangement. This reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening operational resilience, aligning with international standards and building greater trust in Taiwan’s digital asset market.”
As the digital asset sector continues to evolve, Lockton remains focused on helping clients navigate emerging risk exposures and design insurance solutions that support sustainable growth, stronger governance and market confidence.
