Lockton raises £198k for Alzheimer’s Society through 23km fundraising walk

Lockton Companies, the world’s largest independent insurance broker, has raised over £190k for the UK’s leading dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society, through a 23km charity walk across the Surrey Hills.

‘Lockton Steps Up for Alzheimer’s’ took place on Friday 20th September. The 23km sponsored walk, which started and ended at Flower Farm in Oxted, involved over 250 Lockton Associates and Partners, including EJ Hentenaar, CEO of UK and Europe. Sponsored by many insurance companies, with a number entering teams, the event united participants in raising funds and awareness for the charity. The event also coincided with World Alzheimer's Day on 21st September.

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and World Alzheimer’s Day provides a global opportunity to raise dementia awareness and support people and families affected by the disease.

The walk was organised by Lockton and The Lockton Charitable Association, a Lockton charity established to raise funds for donations to charitable causes to improve the lives of people across the UK. This charity has seen Lockton raise over £2 million, supporting other charities including Children with Cancer UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Rays of Sunshine.

The Lockton Charitable Association has supported the Alzheimer’s Society for a number of years, raising in excess of £500,000 to date.

EJ Hentenaar, CEO, UK and Europe at Lockton said: “The challenges faced by those living with dementia and their families, which many of us at Lockton have experienced, resonate deeply with all of us. We understand the importance of long-term care and planning, and our support for Alzheimer's Society reflects our collective desire to back causes that require not only immediate action but also ongoing, sustainable support for the future.

“I’m incredibly proud of both the physical and financial turnout for this walk and I want to extend a huge thanks to our Associates and our insurance partners who have provided donations. It is humbling to see such strong support for the charity. To make this event happen is testament to the passionate culture we are lucky to have at Lockton; a culture of commitment that is keen to give one of society’s most significant causes a platform to be supported and discussed.”

Alex Hyde-Smith – Chief Marketing Officer for Alzheimer’s Society said:“We are incredibly grateful for Lockton’s continued dedication and support. Raising half a million pounds through employee fundraising is absolutely phenomenal and support from companies like Lockton has never been more crucial.

In the UK today, nearly one million people are living with dementia. The funds Lockton employees have raised over three wonderful partnerships will provide vital help and hope to people affected - delivering vital support services and groundbreaking research programmes to help us end the devastation caused by dementia.

Thank you to everyone at Lockton who has supported our partnerships and people affected by dementia.”
