Hong Kong’s fundraiser to help patients and families of spinal muscular atrophy

The devastating social and economic impact of the pandemic is incomprehensible. It is a tough time for the community service sector to keep things running.

With no fundraising events coming due to current social distancing measures, a group of over 170 nonprofits in Hong Kong issued an open letter (opens a new window) to call for immediate support.

Hong Kong office is glad to be part of Lockton Cares COVID19 Community Impact campaign to help local charities who save lives. We contacted Family of SMA Charitable Trust (opens a new window), a group who help people suffer from the dreadful spinal disease, and we tried to propose to them a new fundraiser. This time we decided to do it with some creativeness, we call it "Deliver ❤ FSMA".

The rule is simple – our senior leaders take orders from associates, deliver their lunch and collect donations. Associates could choose different lunchboxes but the most popular one was local street food.

The event was very successful and full of enjoyment. Together with a fund from Lockton Cares COVID19 Community Impact campaign, we have raised HK$100,000 for FSMA, a new record for Hong Kong team.

On 17 June, the founder and chairman of FSMA, Dr. Fok Mei Ling made a visit to Hong Kong office to express their gratitude. The charity also offers our associates in return a picture book set, “The Power of Perseverance”, with true stories of children SMA patients.
